I participate regularly in Mentoring For Free’s weekly MasterMind Mental Cleanse meetings.  The Mental Cleanse is Network Marketing’s Personal Development University.

We read one chapter of Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich each week.  To really benefit from this MasterMind group, each participant writes a lesson with their thoughts and ah-ha moments and submits the lesson to their mentor.

If they wish, they can post the lesson to the 30Day Cleanse Forum to share with the rest of the world.  You never know when your lesson will touch the life of another person.  Below I am sharing my lesson on Chapter 8, Decision.

Chapter 8 Decision

Every time I read this chapter I see it as a repeated history lesson. I really have never realized what I was supposed “get” from this chapter.

Now, by George, I think I’ve got it!

It is nothing short of a tragedy that the writers of history have missed, entirely, even the slightest reference to the irresistible POWER, which gave birth and freedom to the nation.

I say it is a tragedy, because it is the self-same POWER which must be used by every individual who surmounts the difficulties of Life, and forces Life to pay the price asked.

 

I’ll share a story about how I have surmounted one of the difficulties of Life and have forced Life to pay the price I asked.

2 ½ years ago, I weighed 256 lbs and was diagnosed with Diabetes and high blood pressure. I battled losing weight all of my life. Yo-Yo was my mantra.

At the same time, my sister was in the middle of her battle with terminal fatty liver disease. This is a disease caused by poor eating habits and a general unhealthy lifestyle, just like my diabetes & high blood pressure.

My mom died when I was 22 at the age of 60 from heart disease. Her poor health and death was brought on by poor eating habits and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Christmas eve 2010 my first grandson was born. In September 2011 my sister passed away. I decided that I wanted to live a long and healthy life.

I am going to live to be 100 years old with my mental faculties and body functioning intact!

For 2 ½ years, I have worked towards, struggled with, failed, and gotten back in the game many times to reach my health goal. Last week I weighed in at 157 lbs. That is a 99 lb weight loss. My 18 yr old daughter weighs 95 lbs on a good day…Imagine how long I have been carrying around the weight of another human being!

I have a hold of the POWER that has given me the ability to force Life to pay the price I have asked to have my health!

I have the Tiger by the Tail. But that Tiger does fight me and I could lose my grip at any time. That is the way of POWER. It is not a docile creature…it is wild and a force to be reckoned with. It requires mastery and respect.

I am reminded of this every time I pass the glazed old fashioned donuts, or I get out of my car and smell that delicious fried something-or-other coming from the closest restaurant.

Succeeding at MLM is my other Life Desire…a difficulty, or a challenge, of Life to surmount.

 

  • What do I want?

 

The POWER of DECISION drives Your MLM SUCCESS ... WHO is it for?

My deepest heart’s desire is to own my own home. I shared the details of this dream on the Monday call.

My next desire is to have the freedom to travel.

I want to go anywhere from the West coast to the East coast to visit my family and friends scattered between.

I want to travel outside of the states and go on cruises to distant lands.

I want to give Phillip, my 8 yr old, an education of experience few other classmates will have.

 

  • Why did I choose MLM as a way to get there?

 

I do not have any extraordinary skills that will get me the wealth I desire. I do have extraordinary skills, but the job of being a professional Mommy just doesn’t pay enough to get out of a rental much less out of the city limits.

Network Marketing is an open opportunity for all of us. I am learning skills. I am constantly growing my Courage and Faith in myself and this industry. I am focusing on my Desires. I am open and receptive to any ideas & people who will help me achieve dramatic wealth.

I CAN and I AM applying what I have achieved with gaining my Dramatic Health (an achievement I didn’t believe I deserved or could attain) to achieving my Dramatic Wealth. I am not going after a greased pig, I am grabbing a hold of the Tiger’s Tail.

I have the POWER to surmount this current difficulty of my Life, and force Life to pay the Price I Am Asking.

Is Your Excitement Transfering to Your Prospects?

Do you remember what a great feeling it was when you first “got it” about the network marketing business model?

You could hardly contain your excitement about the beauty of

  • “walk away residual income”
  • generational bonuses, and
  • no prospect left behind recruiting.

As soon as you opened your mouth in front of a new lead, your enthusiasm bubbled over and spilled all over the top of the poor soul you had captured to listen to your presentation.

When one after another, they walked away shaking their heads, you just couldn’t figure out what you were doing wrong.

By golly, you knew you were passionate enough and had a strong enough belief.

The simple truth is that most people who are involved in network marketing or who are interested in learning more, have very little knowledge about the MLM industry. They are also already subconsciously wired not to believe in self created wealth.

So, when we go out and start bubbling over on top of prospects, we are actually assaulting their current belief systems with a machine gun!

Most people can’t change their entire belief system in one sitting. The average person can only manage considering one alternate point of view at one time.

Imagine you are approached by someone wanting you to sign a petition to get some new measure on the next ballot. It’s a new idea for your current beliefs.

If the person starts telling you breathlessly about all of the wonderful changes you can expect if this measure passes, how its going to be implemented, and only property owners will have their taxes raised, you may be more inclined to pass. Even if you do sign the petition, chances are you won’t vote for it.

Now if the person starts out saying something like this…

  • You know how most teenagers experiment with drugs and alcohol by the time they are in high school?
  • And of all those kids, many of them get addicted and get involved in crime and drop out of school.
    {By now, you’re probably nodding your head.}
  • Well, some people have figured out an intervention program to keep teens off drugs and in school.
    {I bet you’d like to more!}
  • Would it be OK to ask you to sign this petition so we can get a bond measure on the ballot to make this program mandatory in public schools?
    {I bet not only that you can’t wait to sign the petition, you can’t wait to vote ‘Yes’…even though it will raise property taxes.}

Let’s get back to our prospect.

Do you think most of your prospects want you bubbling all over the top of them? Or do you think they might be more open to listening to what you have to say using the method described above?

I learned this prospecting technique from Tom ‘Big Al’ Schreiter and its called, Fact, Fact, New Bit of Information.

You give your prospects two facts that will get them nodding their heads in agreement. Then, you give a bit of new information that might mildly challenge their current beliefs. The new information has to be designed to tempt your prospect to say “Tell me more!”

When that happens, you know you have yourself a prospect who wants to hear more information. If they don’t say “Tell me more”, either they are not interested and are not a prospect for your opportunity, or you need to improve your use of this technique.

  • Most people in Network Marketing are terrified these days to do face to face prospecting.
  • Most people are afraid of rejection.
  • Some people have found out how to learn exactly what to say to prospects that is rejection free in just an hour a week of training.
